"Barrier-free" describes the unhindered access to information in the internet. That is not only an interesting point for handicapped users: "accessible" websites can be used everywhere. For example, you can use it with mobile equipment, within protected business networks or for printing. The result for a company operating with "barrier-free" websites is a larger radius by up to 15 per cent.
Already in 2002, Leonhardt built up extensive expertise in the area of access "without barriers and with standardization.” And at that time, solutions were already developed which make it easier for companies in particular to change to barrier-free websites, especially taking the cost-benefit aspects into consideration.
Our activities include:
Under » http://www.barrierefinder.de/ Leonhardt has published a quick and easily comprehensible test on "barrier-free." The test demonstrates the extent to which a website can be accessible and usable for everybody. The barrier-finder tracks down possible barriers on the websites and gives appropriate advice on how to improve the design and structure of the site.
We regularly carry out studies in order to make many customers sensitive to the subject of "barrier-free." These studies are based on an expanded short test which also enables us to examine a larger number of companies. The current study tests 30 companies from the areas of finance, insurance, tourism, trade, media and telecommunication.
Our experts extensively test the sites for all criteria of a barrier-free website. All criteria of the German BITV and the international WAI guidelines are taken into consideration. In addition to a comprehensible documentation, they work on suggestions for technical improvement and the organisational realization of the switch to barrier-free websites. During the run-up to a project, this kind of test may help to realize the switch in an easy and effective way. During the current project, the test may help to guarantee high quality whilst providing important ideas for the final and optimum result.
We advise companies and institutions how best to make their internet activities barrier-free. Especially in the field of complex applications, such advisory service may considerably help save costs and to make the switch rapidly. Without realizing a complete re-launch, the integration of the barrier-free features into the existing version has top priority.
Leonhardt actively supports companies and institutions who want to change to barrier-free websites. We develop consistent switching methods for a company-wide use which can be applied to the existing websites. Moreover, we supervise the actual process of conversion and - if required – we place our editorial, design and technical services at your disposal. With our expertise in the field of content management systems, we are able to ensure that the switching process is based on an appropriate technical platform. After a changeover has taken place, we check if the barrier-free presentation can be guaranteed on a long-term basis and if new measures are in line with these regulations as well.
